A massive 9.0 magnitude earthquake hit the Pacific Ocean nearby Northeastern Japan at around 2:46pm on March 11, 2011 (JST) causing damage with blackouts, fire and tsunami. On this page, we direct visitors to donate through Japanese Red Cross Society and other reliable organizations. We also update related events on campus. All the donation collected in on-campus events has been sent to Japanese Red Cross Society to support the relief efforts in Japan.

As Japanese community at Haas School of Business, University of California Berkeley, we highly appreciate your strong support.

Among several options of organizations you can find for donation, we recommend Japanese Red Cross Society because we confirmed so far that your donation would be directly and promptly used to save and help victims of this earthquake. However, you cannot get tax deduction in the U.S. that way because they are organization overseas.

We also recommend JEN, authorized NPO in Japan, who has been doing assistance activities for those victims of wars, internal conflicts, and natural disasters, based on the motto “psyco-social care and assistance for self-reliance”. You cannot expect tax deduction if you donate through this NPO for the same reason as above.

If you need tax deduction, we recommend you to donate through American organization, such as American Red Cross, globalgiving, UniversalGiving, etc..
